Ducati Sogno (later)

introduction | Sogno | Early versions | Simplex | Sogno Per Collaboratore

The more common Ducati Sogno, model number OR 6401.1, was only 3 7/8 x 2 1/8 x 11/3 inches in size with the lens collapsed. It had interchangeable lenses and a Leica style coupled rangefinder with separate viewfinder window. The standard lens was an interchangeable 35mm f/3. 5 Vitor which was extended one half inch and focused from 0.8 meter or 31 inches to infinity.

The lens tube collapsed into the camera body making for a virtually flat profile. Removing the lens entailed pressing a small button to the left of the lens and rotating the optic in its well made triple tooth bayonet mount.

The focal plane shutter offered speeds from 1/20 to 1/500 second, plus B. Because the focal plane shutter is not self capping, two small internal vertical barn doors, hinged on either side of the negative frame, remain closed as the focal plane curtains were drawn across the film plane, until the shutter button is pressed.

The Sogno's entire back and bottom could be removed, though the camera reversed the traditional position of the wind and rewind spools. Unlike the Leica, the camera's top left knob advanced the film and cocked the shutter while the top right knob rewound the film back into the cassette.
